EXECUTIVE TEAM - DUTIES v The executive team will serve to keep action a priority within the Social Action Council. Is the mobilizing arm of the council. It establishes and maintains coalitions with other individuals/groups/organizations/communities fighting for issues of social, political and economic justice. The council emphasizes the importance of working in tandem with "client" groups in coalitions, utilizing an empowerment framework. There will be an emphasis on recruiting students active in social justice struggles.
v Will work to connect social workers with social justice campaigns, highlight "best practices" in social action, etc. and participate in (serve as liaison to) other professional conferences and events.
v Serves as the production arm for all public council positions and media releases. Develops public position statements regarding issues relevant to social action and social justice based on Council “guiding principles” in conjunction with NASW-CA leadership (to discern boundaries and protocol regarding all actions of the Council).
CO-CHAIRS
v Arrange council meeting times and locations, set agenda, and facilitate
1) Yearly SASJ Council leadership meeting at NASW-CA leadership meeting
2) Yearly SASJ Council meeting/forum at NASW-CA annual membership meeting
v Serve as the primary point of communication with NASW-CA and National and make reports, as necessary
COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATORS
Offers logistical support regarding communication among all Council Teams in an effort to maintain a collaborative approach to social action, & communicates current efforts to other executive leaders. Also, serves a secretarial function during meetings - maintains and distributes minutes.
NORTH:
*Update web site;
*Develops/maintains active liaison members list and posts on Web site;
*Update the council resource list as needed and posts on Web site
SOUTH:
*Coordinate regular monthly council columns in NASW-CA news;
*Produces / disseminate information regarding specific actions in conjunction with liaisons & statewide social justice campaigns
TREASURER
v Provides leadership from the Council regarding the student-driven SAW events:Works with students to maintains /update records such as list of speakers & resource list;Ensure that SAW includes council introduction and that students coordinating SAW send out council info whenever possible (especially when sending info to other Schools of Social Work)
v Submits yearly Request for Funds to NASW-CA
v Create guidelines regarding dissemination of funds & provide annual budgetary report to council executive team
COUNCIL LIAISONS - DUTIES
Performs a "Clearing house Function": by serving as a hub of information regarding regional, statewide, nationwide and global social justice campaigns and/or issues. This would include distribution of information to social workers throughout the state (get info to communications coordinators). Connect with social work leaders in academic (including students), professional and political arenas/organizations.
Perform an "Educational Function" by working within their organization to promote classes/workshops (offering CE Units, whenever possible) regarding social justice practice and successful methods of organizing social action campaigns.
